If you are in favor of abolishing the use of animals as human resources, don’t you care more about animals than you do about those humans with illnesses who might possibly be cured through animal research?
The issue here is whether it is ethically justifiable to use sentient beings as a ‘resource’ for others not an emotional one about who is more valued.
For example we would not condone the use of unconsenting humans in biomedical experiments, even though the data obtained from them would be more useful than those from animal experiments. This is because most of us agree that using unwilling humans in experiments is wrong. It doesn't mean that we care more about those who are unwilling to be used as experimental subjects than we do about the others who may benefit from their use.
