Animal Abuse Exposed

Here you will find previous investigations ARA has been involved in.

Keene's Piggery Investigation

A 2004 investigation into an intensive pig breeding facility.

Animal Rights Advocates Inc. inspected Keene’s Piggery initially in October 2004, finding multiple breaches of the WA Code of Practice for Pigs in relation to size of stalls and neglect to provide veterinary treatment.

During this investigation ARA came upon a severely malnourished and sick piglet who was unable to feed and close to death. The piglet (later named 'Oscar') was rushed to receive veterinary attention and has since fully recovered.

After a subsequent investigation by the RSPCA resulted in no change for the pigs involved, ARA returned 5 ½ weeks later to further protest their mistreatment. Staging a sit-in and calling on the police to prosecute the owner on charges of animal cruelty resulted in national media coverage however no prosecution was pursued.

Foti Battery Hen Farm Investigation

A 1998 investigation into battery hen hell.

In 1998 Lorraine Foulkes took a job at a battery hen farm in Wattleup. Over the five months that she worked at this farm she was witness to appalling conditions, shocking suffering and callous attitudes of the people who owned the farm.

Lorraine kept a diary documenting her experiences, supported with around 400 photos. Despite being told by leading solicitors that it was the most compelling evidence they had seen, the RSPCA declined to prosecute.

Lorraine's Diary is currently being digitised and will be uploaded soon.
