Live Export Shipment Risks Rejection

Fears that another ‘Cormo Express’ disaster is looming after animals received Christian ‘last rites’ blessing.

Mark Pearson, Executive Director Animal Liberation (NSW) states:

“Upon discovering the prohibition in the Holy Quran that a person of Islam ‘must not eat anything over which the name of another deity has been proclaimed’, it is feared that the sheep and cattle on the ‘Maysora’ which left Fremantle in WA on Monday last may be rejected.

“The Federal government, through AQIS, had become aware that an ordained catholic priest, Father Claude Mostowik, had blessed countless animals with holy water in a Christian last anointment blessing. However they permitted the vessel to disembark.

Jonathan Hallett, Coordinator Animal Rights Advocates Inc. (WA) states:

“Last Monday I witnessed the priest bless numerous sheep and cattle at the port of Fremantle as they were arriving to be loaded on board. The animals appeared terrified and distressed by the loading process as they were forced onto what could not be described other than a floating ‘concentration camp’ for Australian animals.”
